Under-Resourced Scholars
in Marin County
Next Generation Scholars equips and empowers first generation, under-resourced Marin County middle and high school students to succeed in college and beyond through socially-conscious leadership development.
Barriers to equitable education for our target population, first-generation children of working-class families, and under-resourced youth in Marin County include systemic barriers to educational resources, prohibitive costs to healthy food, overwhelming obstacles to affordable housing, limitations of public transportation, and the competing demands for working families.
That’s why at Next Gen, our focus is on both the student and their entire family, knowing that family wellness is critical to student success.
Grounded in individualized academic and social support for them and their families, our students are emboldened to address the inequities in the world, both for themselves and for their communities.

Our History
Since Next Gen Scholars was founded on a dining room table in 2003, we have grown year after year to serve first generation Scholars in Marin County for over two decades.
NGS Centers Working Class Families in Marin County
Marin's residents share world-class geographic benefits while co-existing in one of California's most economically and educationally disparate regions.
While this region boasts some of the highest incomes per capita, it also has one of the lowest employment rates, the widest income gap, and of the greatest racial inequities in California.*
We partner with 42 schools and organizations that allow us to serve the unique needs of the county's educational ecosystem.
We are committed to uplifting and centering the children of the county's working class.

FAQs
Students are expected to attend two weekly classes during the school year, one on Sunday and one during the week. We also ask that students struggling in a particular class develop an academic support plan with us, which often includes one additional day of tutoring. During the summer, we expect our students to either enroll in our 5-week Summer Academy or a similarly rigorous academic summer program.
