When Next Gen Scholars first began serving low-income youth, we quickly realized that educational achievement did not depend solely on what took place in the classroom.

We knew we had to address a more complex range of challenges in the community - from parents being unfamiliar with the college application process to broader issues such as child care, food insecurity, flawed immigration policies, lack of health care, unstable housing, and more.

What distinguishes our work from other academic success programs is the fact that we don’t just focus on the student but rather the entire family.

At NGS, we understand that family wellness is critical to student success. Students can only adequately focus on their academic performance if their family knows where their next meal or rent money comes from. Moreover, according to Education Week.

Our Impact in 2024

We help address systemic barriers that prevent parents from supporting their children’s education by wrapping our arms around the entire family and providing them with access to resources in five key focus areas.
