For NGS Executive Director Nghiem Bui, the mission of Next Generation Scholars is deeply personal.
Growing up in Section 8 housing in San Rafael as the son of Vietnamese refugees, Nghiem experienced firsthand the opportunities that NGS creates. Today, as an NGS alumnus and Executive Director, he's helping extend those opportunities to a new generation. And as technology reshapes education and the workplace, Nghiem and the NGS team are thinking about what our Scholars will need to succeed.
We've recently submitted a $100,000 proposal to Young Futures' The Unwritten Challenge to integrate AI literacy into the skills our Scholars are already developing: critical thinking, independent judgment, and the confidence to navigate an increasingly complex world.
The goal isn't simply to teach students how to use AI. It's to help them evaluate information, think for themselves, and use emerging technology to advance their own goals.
Hear directly from Nghiem in the short video we submitted with our application.
(If you or someone you know has a connection to Young Futures, please reach out to Eric Weller. An introduction or word of support could help strengthen our application.)
Looking Ahead: Every Scholar Has a Vision
Next Thursday, November 12, we'll launch our Annual Fund campaign: Every Scholar Has a Vision. Help Them Bring It to Life.
Over the coming weeks, we'll share stories from Scholars, alumni, staff, and supporters that illustrate what opportunity looks like in action.
Thank you for being part of the NGS community.
NGS Gala
Save the Date!
Sunday, April 18 2027
Last year's NGS Gala was an unforgettable evening! From powerful stories shared by our alumni to the laughter, joy, and connections throughout the room, it was a wonderful celebration of our Scholars and the community that believes in them.
And thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our supporters, we raised a record-breaking amount to support NGS students and families!
Mark your calendars for April 18, 2027, as we come together again for an inspiring evening of celebration, connection, and community.
More details to come. We can't wait to see you there!
