When Next Generation Scholars first began serving under-resourced youth, we quickly realized that educational achievement did not depend solely on what took place in the classroom.

We knew we had to address a more complex range of challenges in the community – from parents being unfamiliar with the college application process to broader issues such as costly child care, food insecurity, challenging immigration policies, lack of health care, unstable housing, and more.

In response to the economic downturn suffered by our families, and the rising costs of food and other living expenses, we have expanded our NGS Food Bank hours to better fuel our hard working students and families. Hours have increased from Sunday only, to the addition of Monday – Thursday, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm. Over 30 NGS families access our food pantry every week, and this will allow them, and all NGS families, to receive food more frequently. The NGS Food Bank originated as a Community Uplift Project by one of our alumni, and is made possible through the generosity of NGS donors and our partnerships with San Francisco/Marin Food Bank and ExtraFood.
